Position: Public Services Specialist/Librarian

Professional level work in providing library services including reference, readers’ advisory, programming and outreach, and library instruction to the public of all ages. Work requires maintaining considerable expertise in the use of information technology including, but not limited to, databases, email, downloadable e-books, e-audio, and the internet. Acts as part of branch’s management team and assists in the management of branch operations and the supervision of branch staff. May assume responsibility for branch operations as designated person in charge in absence of Branch Manager.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a bachelor’s degree and three years’ work experience in a library or educational setting. One year of supervisory experience.

Special Requirement for non-MLS candidates: Completion of Library Associate Training Institute within two years following appointment; and ability to maintain eligibility by completing 90 hours of training every 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science or master’s degree in related field and one year of work experience in library or educational setting. One year of supervisory experience. Spanish language skills.

Special Requirement: Ability to secure certification as a Professional Public Librarian in the State of Maryland within 120 days following appointment; ability to meet re-certification requirements by completing 90 hours of training every 5 years.

Position: Student Success and Outreach Librarian

The purpose of this position is to develop, coordinate, and support the HCC Library’s student success initiatives and to coordinate and support the HCC Library’s programming, marketing, and outreach activities at HCC and within the community. In addition, the Student Success and Outreach Librarian shares in general responsibilities assigned to all HCC librarians.

The essential functions of this position include:

  • Collaborating with campus partners in Student Affairs, such as the Learning Center and the My College Success Network, to develop and support co-curricular programming that fosters student success, recruitment, and retention.
  • Coordinating marketing of Library resources, services and programs and developing outreach programs and events.
  • Coordinating efforts to assess the impact of the Library’s reference and instruction services and programming on student success and college-wide Key Performance Indicators.
  • Coordinating Library support for Open Education Resources (OER) initiatives.
  • Collaborating with Harford County Public Schools and other area schools, as well as the Harford County Public Library, to help bridge the gap in research skills between high school and college, and to support lifelong learning.

Requirements

Education: Master’s degree in Library Science or related field from an ALA-accredited institution is required.

Experience: Minimum of one year of relevant experience required. At least one year of information literacy instruction or other teaching experience strongly preferred. Experience in an academic setting preferred. Demonstrated experience providing reference and research help services, experience creating online learning objects, and experience in library marketing and programming strongly preferred.

KPIs:

  • Experience working in a library setting.
  • Proficiency in a Windows-based computer environment.

Position: Librarian I or Library Specialist – Children’s Services

Location: Frederick County Public Libraries
