This librarian will serve on the Library’s leadership team while using knowledge of library operations to effectively manage operations and activities of an assigned group of library locations.
At the direction of the Chief Operating Officer for Public Services, the Area Director provides operational, strategic, and administrative leadership to an assigned group of library locations to successfully meet the Library system’s goals and objectives. They work collaboratively with their branch staff, supervisors, and PGCMLS departments to ensure the provision of high-quality, customer-focused library services and effective allocation of resources for their library locations. In collaboration with and in support of administrative staff, they advise, recommend, develop, plan for and implement public service procedures, policies, organizational initiatives, and strategic priorities. They serve as a managerial representative of the Library, supervise personnel, and may represent PGCMLS through active involvement with external committees and partners.
Essential Functions:
Ensures and facilitates the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused services, and assists in ensuring the Library’s services appropriately meet the needs of the community, organizational goals, and objectives.
Guides and supports branch supervisors and staff in developing, coordinating, and implementing branch and system goals.
Performs professional and administrative duties in planning, implementing, directing, and evaluating customer-focused library services.
Plans, coordinates, and manages operations and activities of an assigned group of library locations.
Manages and supervises direct reports; monitors and evaluates job performance; oversees staff training and development; mentors and counsels staff in the supervisory line; facilitates regular meetings with direct reports and other key staff.
Provides key input to guide, develop, plan for and implement public service procedures, policies, budgets, organizational initiatives, and strategic priorities.
Builds collaborative relationships with professionals and staff in a highly collegial, interdisciplinary, and collective bargaining environment based on customer-first initiatives.
Maintains an area budget to support branch-directed programming and ensures all allocated resources are used effectively.
Conducts analyses in relation to branch and community service requirements; oversees the maintenance and development of branch library collections; ensures collection materials appropriately meet the customers’ needs in each library location.
Represents the Library to and interacts with community groups, outside organizations, and the public; accurately communicates, builds, and maintains productive community partnerships.

Requirements
Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program required.
A minimum of five years of experience in diverse phases of public library services which includes at least four years of branch supervisory experience required.
Maryland Professional Public Librarian certificate required within six-months of hire.
Thorough knowledge of established library practices and procedures as well as of public library operations, programs, and services.
Knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of public library services, customer service, technology, information services, adult services, and youth services as assigned.
Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and methods.
Ability to oversee and lead the continued development of public service initiatives.
Strong written and verbal communication as well as customer service skills.
Strong organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently in a variety of situations and be flexible and adaptable to change.
Ability to analyze data, processes, and procedures and develop meaningful reports and recommendations based on the analysis that will improve service and staff efficiency.

Position: Librarian Supervisor II, Children’s
Location: Enoch Pratt Free Library

Responsibilities: The Pratt Library is in search of an energetic, creative and passionate leader to serve
as the department manager for the Children’s Department.
This is a management position under the direction of the Chief of the State Library Resource Center
(SLRC) in programmatic collaboration with the Library’s Children’s Services Coordinator. This position
serves a local and statewide customer base.
Management Responsibilities: Assuring excellent customer service with adherence to the Library’s
mission; Ability to design and implement relevant children’s programming and outreach to a broad,
diverse statewide customer base; Develop relevant training for local and statewide public library staffs;
Function effectively and collaboratively as a member of the SLRC management team; Planning and
project management related to the Library’s and the State Library Resource Center’s Strategic Plan;
Supervision and evaluation of Children’s Department staff and programs

Requirements: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or university and
experience in developing programs for children. This position also requires two (2) years of
demonstrated, successful, and increasingly responsible planning, programming, and supervisory
experience in a public library setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate must possess excellent written and
verbal communication skills and the proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced
environment. The successful candidate must have the ability to travel in Maryland with personal
transportation. The Librarian Supervisor II must have the ability work in concert with Library
administrative staff, the Chief of SLRC and other Maryland State public libraries. The Manager will be
expected to maintain an atmosphere of confidentiality as required. Demonstrated knowledge and
experience with automated systems and the Microsoft software suite is required.

Position: Teen Services Supervisor II
Location: Frederick County Public Libraries, C. Burr Artz Public Library

Requirements: Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an American Library Association accredited
program

-Minimum 2 years of work experience in a supervisory and/or lead capacity role
-Professional Public Librarian certification from the Maryland State Department of Education or ability to

maintained

-Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
-Minimum 5 years of professional or para-professional library work experience that includes at least 2
years in working with Teens (6th-12th Grade)

-Ability to obtain and maintain Library Associate certification from the MD State Department of

Salary Range: Salary: $61,166.00-$73,999.00 Annually
