Position: Librarian Supervisor II

This is a managerial position under the direction of the Chief of the State Library Resource Center and SLRC Management Team.

In coordination with the Chief of the State Library Resource Center, SLRC Manager, and SLRC Department Managers, the Librarian Supervisor II is responsible for all aspects of the planning, management, and coordination of the statewide service related to the Sights and Sounds Department.

Summary of Duties:

The Sights and Sounds Manager is responsible for the awareness of developing trends in the audio/visual field to include the effective delivery of customer relevant audio/video resources locally and and statewide.

Design and develop new services involving appropriate cross-divisional staff and administration to more effectively reach and meet the needs of Library customers.

The Manager will work with department staff and colleagues in recommending the acquisition of new and replacement materials in appropriate formats to meet customer expectations for the collection in coordination with the Library’s Collection Management Division and SLRC Management staff.

The Manager works with appropriate staff in establishing and maintaining a web presence, examining ways to provide a high level of electronic access to the Library’s resources for the Library’s customer base. Electronic subject guides, audio and video streaming, and marketing Sights and Sounds services in an online environment is critical

The Manager is responsible for meeting the appropriate initiatives outlined in the Enoch Pratt Free Library Strategic Plan as well as those that are part of the State Library Resource Center Strategic and Annual Plans.

The Manager’s communication must be transparent, professional as well as confidential when required, following the appropriate channels in a large complex organization. Communication will periodically involve assisting Maryland public library administrators and their staffs as well as state and local government offices.

The Manager is expected to monitor and evaluate staff performance as scheduled and create an atmosphere conducive to staff development. Collaborative staff development plans are an integral part of the Library’s staff development process.

The Manager prepares necessary reports, monitors and evaluates departmental statistics, and participates on Library committees.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA accredited college or university. Experience in developing programs for information delivery. Requires a minimum of two years of demonstrated, successful, and increasingly responsible planning, programming, and supervisory experience in a public library setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The successful candidate is expected to have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment. The successful candidate must have the ability to work in concert with Library administrative staff, the Chief of SLRC, Baltimore City Maryland State government customers. The Manager will be expected to maintain an atmosphere of confidentiality as required. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with automated systems and popular software is required.

Position: Summer Outreach Specialist (Contractual)

The Pratt Library is accepting applications for a contractual Summer Outreach Specialist. This is a no-benefit position.

The Summer Outreach Specialist manages and implements Summer Challenge reading and learning activities during the summer months at facilities and programs where children and teens are enrolled. The Pratt Library’s Summer Challenge is an incentive-based reading and learning program that aims to prevent summer learning loss while children are not in school.

Summary of Duties:
Many children and teens are enrolled in other programs during the summer such as daycare or Department of Recreation and Parks programs. The Pratt extends its Summer Challenge services to these facilities with an outreach program that brings books, reading logs, incentives, and activities directly to these locations.

In support of these objectives, the Summer Outreach Specialist will:

  • Lead and engage children and teens in activities including STEM experiments, early literacy story times, creative arts projects, and more
  • Participate in training prior to the start of summer
  • Sort and organize books and program supplies
  • Load and unload bins of books and program supplies from vans
  • Travel by van to multiple sites per day
  • Distribute incentives to sites in accordance with program guidelines
  • Use an online platform to track sites’ Summer Challenge participation
  • Be a positive representative of the Pratt Library in Baltimore’s communities

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in an education-related field or Bachelor’s Degree with related work experience in education required. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for providing services to children and teens and two years of experience working with either age group.

Desired Qualifications
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to create and present information in group settings to both children and adults. Proven experience in program and project implementation. Experience providing services to or working with diverse communities. Ability to resolve problems and conflict with diplomacy and work with a team.

Position: Web Applications Manager

The Enoch Pratt Free Library is looking for an experienced Web Applications Manager to plan, develop and manage the Web department.  The Web Applications Manager reports to the Information Systems Manager.

Summary of Duties:

The Web Applications Manager:

  • Provides vision and direction, in alignment with the strategic goals of the the library and customer needs
  • Works with library staff and outside customers to determine needs and requirements.
  • Architects web content, databases. products, and services, in accordance with required functions and priorities
  • Manages and directs the activities of the web applications team
  • Manages project activities, evaluates project requirements, establishes deadlines, monitors activities, updates stakeholders on status and deliverables.
  • Guides planning, implementation, testing, and maintenance of products, content, and services
  • Allocates departmental resources according to organizational priorities, project timelines, and best use of departmental expertise
  • Implements standards and best practices, establishes guidelines, review processes, and editorial oversight
  • Remains current in areas of user experience research and design
  • Support, guides, and contributes to development, design, and editorial work

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences, or substantial degree-track of Computer Science coursework. 3 to 4 years of professional manager experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated oversight and management of web applications team(s) supporting web sites, integration of web elements with 3rd party software and development of user directed web functions and tools.

Working knowledge of:

  • Contemporary web based applications principles, technologies, development processes and deliverables.
  • Current web application development tools such as: Content Management Systems – Drupal, WordPress, Ektron or Google Sites; Operating Systems – Windows Server 2012R2 and Linux; SQL servers – MS-SQL, PostgreSQL or mySQL; Web servers – IIS, Apache; Web or CGI programming languages – perl, php, Visual Basic, C Sharp, Javascript, JQuery; .NET Framework; CSS; management – SASS; Integrated Development Environment – Visual Studio; Google Office Suite – integrating Forms, Spreadsheets and web applications; Web services and file formats – JSON & XML; Search Engine Optimization – like Google Webmaster Tools.
  • Programming practices and principles
  • User experience research and design processes
  • Basic principles of graphic design and typography
  • Project management tools including: software version control, build tools, cross-browser testing
  • Recent professional web development experience, including programming dynamic web applications from scratch and/or using common frameworks, database design, and the use of APIs and programming libraries
  • Experience configuring and extending or modifying content management systems (Drupal, WordPress, Ektron or Google Sites)
  • Strong written and visual communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and research skills

Position: Web Marketing Associate

The Enoch Pratt Free Library is looking for an experienced Web Marketing Associate to support the digital marketing efforts.

The Web Marketing Associate reports to the Communications Director.

The Web Marketing Associate will:

  • Coordinate and Support Digital Marketing Efforts under the direction of the Communications Director.
  • Maintain email database.
  • Interface and collaborate with web team to design and create web page layout, graphics, animation, and multimedia web content using Photoshop, Fireworks, Flash, Camtasia and other software products.
  • Do some programming using, but not limited to, ASP.NET, VB, Javascript, XML, XSLT, PHP, CSS.
  • Collaborate with others on information architecture, user interface, content management, and web usability.
  • Maintain knowledge of current developments in new technologies and emerging web marketing trends.
  • Assist marketing team in multiple initiatives and assignments that support and promote the Enoch Pratt Free Library brand.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Web Design or related field.
One year relevant experience in Communications, Marketing, Web Design or related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong writer, team player, deadline-oriented. Familiar with ASP.NET, VB, Javascript, XML, XSLT, PHP, CSS. Working knowledge of Photoshop.
