Position: Associate University Librarian
Location: Strayer University – Washington, DC

The Associate Librarian oversees the daily operations of the University Library for all campus and online library service points. Works with the University Librarian on enterprise wide library issues, polices, procedures and services. Fills in for University Librarian as and when needed. Works on library initiatives and tasks as assigned.

  • Works with the Assistant Librarian to insure daily needs and support of campus LRCs/LRCMs are met
  • Fills in for Assistant Librarian as needed and directed
  • Coordinates Library outreach efforts to include training, promotional efforts, and liaising with various university departments and constituencies
  • Participates in University committees and other duties as assigned
  • Develops new library programs, initiatives, and technologies in consultation with the University Librarian
  • Directs institutional research and outcomes assessment activities to include information literacy
  • Reviews and analyses library strategic and operational plans and works with University Librarian and Library team to modify and improve process and planning documents
  • Support accreditation efforts as needed and required.


American Library Association (ALA) – accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science.

Certificates, Licenses And Registrations

Membership in a professional library or information science organization preferred

Work Experience

5 or more years of progressively responsible management and leadership roles within a library, preference given for work within an academic setting.

Position: Part-Time Reference and Instruction Librarian
Location: Harford Community College Library – Bel Air, MD

Harford Community College is seeking a customer service-oriented individual to join our library team. Responsibilities include providing reference/research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons in person and by electronic communications; assisting library patrons in using information and technology resources; and teaching information literacy/library instruction sessions. The reference & instruction librarian also serves as an embedded librarian in online courses, assists in the development of course guides and other user guides and in collection development.
Work schedule is approximately 20 hours per week, to include some weekend hours and one evening per week. The 10-month employee works August 15 to June 15 each year.


A master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or in a closely related field, and advanced knowledge of reference service principles and information literacy competency standards are required. One year of experience in library reference preferred; one year of library instruction or other teaching experience is strongly preferred. Experience in an academic setting is also preferred.
Applicants will be evaluated on criteria including, but not limited to, proficiency in a Windows-based computer environment; experience assisting others to use online databases, library catalogs, and other print, non-print, or digital library resources; demonstrated ability to teach library instruction classes; and customer service experience. Experience using some or all of the Adobe Creative Cloud applications is desirable.
