Position: Library Services Specialist for Reference & Instruction
Location: Albin O. Kuhn Library at UMBC- Balitmore, MD
Salary: Pay Range 10 (starting at $38,204)

The Library Services Specialist will provide reference services to the UMBC community and support for library instruction and outreach.

The successful candidate will join a team of six faculty librarians and one support staff to provide research assistance to a diverse community of UMBC students, faculty, staff and community members. In addition to working on a library service desk providing research support, this position supports the Library’s instruction, orientation, and outreach efforts, particularly to the campus First Year Experience programs. This includes supporting and facilitating general orientations and instruction to first year students, assisting with library workshops, and initiating, planning, and conducting a variety of programs and activities to promote use of the library and its services.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position.
Note: additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Position: Processing Supervisor
Location: Administrative Offices, Baltimore County Public Library- Towson, MD
Annualized Salary Range: $44,023-$58,967

Key Responsibilities

  • Takes an active role in recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating processing staff. Accurately assesses staff abilities. Develops staff strengths and coaches staff to improve performance.
  • Oversees the daily operations of the Processing staff for the Technical Services Department. Sets weekly part-time schedules based on overall work flow.
  • Creates and maintains statistical data based on workflow that inform weekly part-time schedules and yearly parttime staffing requests.
  • Collaborates with the Technical Services Manager to set performance expectations, feedback and goals for the Processing staff.
  • Mentors, develops and works closely with the Assistant Processing Supervisor.
  • Collaborates with the Department management team to ensure that high quality customer service is delivered to internal customers.
  • Models continuous learning and encourages and supports continuous staff development.

Position: Health & Life Sciences Librarian- temporary position
Location: Priddy Library at the Universities at Shady Grove- Rockville, MD

The Priddy Library at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) seeks a candidate for a three-month, part time health and life sciences librarian position. It would start late September/first week of October through December 2017. It would be part-time (20 hours/week), Monday-Thursday with occasional Saturdays.

· Serves as library liaison to the following programs at the USG: Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Exercise Science, Geographic Information Systems, Health Systems Management, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health Science This involves, but is not limited to, promoting services available through the Priddy Library, providing information literacy instruction and supporting faculty research.
· Provides general and specialized information assistance and research consultations in person, by phone, by e-mail and through chat.

· Experience providing reference and research assistance in an academic or special library
· Experience using electronic resources.
· Experience with information literacy instruction.

· Undergraduate degree and/or experience working in the sciences or a health-related field.
· Experience with or aptitude for working effectively and creatively with faculty and students.
· Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
· Strong public service orientation.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with colleagues, faculty and staff in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment.
