Position: Partnership and Programs Librarian

Arlington County’s Central Library is looking for a Librarian with a passion for programming and exemplary customer service to help shape the future of the Library’s public programming and partnerships. This position will also participate in other adult services operational responsibilities and general Library functions.

Duties include:

  • Working with a system-wide team to plan and deliver programming;
  • Building partnerships with area organizations and businesses;
  • Working with internal and county partners to create new initiatives and partnerships;
  • Providing reference, information and reader’s advisory services and assisting patrons in the use of Library resources; and
  • Collecting, collating, and organizing statistics for presentations and reports.

The ideal candidate will be creative, community-focused, energetic, possess strong collaboration, leadership, and communication skills and be knowledgeable about current and emerging trends in programming and creating partnerships in public libraries.

Collection Development Librarian

The Adult Services Collection Development Librarian works in coordination with the Collection Development Manager to manage the centralized adult collection development program for the library system, and ensures that collection directions and decisions are coordinated across genres, collections, and formats. Collection Development is part of a Materials Management Division that centrally reviews, selects, acquires, catalogs, and processes all materials for a system that includes a Central Library and seven branches. The selected candidate will participate actively in library adult services teams and support front-line staff by providing relief at the adult services reference desk.

Duties include:

  • Selecting system-wide adult library materials in print and electronic formats in English and other languages within the appropriated budget allotments;
  • Evaluating adult collections and recommending collection development policy and procedures;
  • Planning and managing adult collection development initiatives and collection maintenance activities;
  • Training staff in the use of collection development and management tools, policies, and procedures;
  • Analyzing system statistical data and applying it to collection decisions to meet collection goals;
  • Collaborating with public services staff on collection management;
  • Providing programming support for system-wide initiatives; and
  • Developing and maintaining effective community partnerships.
