The position is located in the Office of National & International Outreach.

The purpose of this position is to help develop and present content for the Library’s online and in-person educational outreach programs and projects. The incumbent may be assigned to work on such projects as a member of a team or independently.

The Educational Outreach Division was established to shape the Library of Congress historical collections to the needs of the K-16 educational community. The goal of the office is to raise public awareness of the value of primary sources and increase their use at the elementary and secondary school level, and on into post-secondary school. The office engages in programming to promote the effective use of primary source materials through a variety of channels, on-site, online, and at a distance. The office identifies Library collections that are appropriate for K-16 development, produces teaching materials to accompany the primary source collections, establishes distribution channels, develops teacher and librarian training, and investigates new technologies for dissemination.

ASRC Federal Space & Defense, a subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is expanding it’s staff in the Trademark Law Library and is seeking a Trademark Librarian in Alexandria, VA.

Role/Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Director and Senior Librarian, plans, organizes, and coordinates work activities involved in obtaining and making library resources available to the trademark attorneys and other customers.

Primary duties for this position are reference assistance and research using a wide range of materials. Performs research using on-line search techniques, automated tools, print material, and other resources as necessary. Analyzes search requests, interviews requesters when needed, develops search strategies, and reviews and provides search results.

Other tasks may encompass one or more of the following: Provides information and updates for content of library web pages. Makes recommendations for collection development. Assists with updating and maintaining both physical and electronic collections. Performs cataloging of new materials. Performs check-in and management of serials.

Follows guidelines for the security of library collections and equipment. Assists in user training efforts and in the development of documentation for new staff and USPTO employees. Assists with marketing efforts for promoting the library and its available resources. Processes and fills requests for full text literature from internal and external resources. Assists with compilation of library statistics. Works independently under overall project objectives and requirements. Apprises supervisor about progress and unusual complications.

Requirements:

Masters in Library Science; new MLS grads encouraged to apply; 3 years of library experience preferred.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and provide superior reference services in a timely manner.
Creativity and tenacity in performing research in a wide range of subject areas and with a variety of resources to support the research of trademark attorneys.
Expertise in searching one or more major on-line commercial vendors (ProQuest and Lexis/Nexis) and expertise in searching the Internet.
Experience in using Microsoft Office Tools and familiarity with collaborative web tools such as SharePoint, Wikis, etc.


Position: Collection Development/Acquisitions Librarian

We are seeking an Collection Development/Acquisitions Librarian to join our stable growing contract in Alexandria, VA.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited, to the following:

Looking for an entry level Librarian who is interested in Collection Development and Acquisitions functions.
Need a strong working knowledge of libraries and library systems.
Will work closely with the Digital Resources/Web Librarian to make sure that the library catalog accurately reflects holdings- especially for electronic materials.
This individual will help collect information- subject matter and bibliographic- on resources for either acquisition or de-acquisition. Will work from a set of criteria identified by our Federal customer- and the information they provide will assist in decision making regarding collection development.
Provide support for usage statistical reporting and must be experienced with Excel.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills overall and good attention to detail.

Education and Qualifications:

A Master’s Degree in Library Science.
3 years of Library/Information Center experience. (Education requirement may be waived for those with extensive experience in the field).

Should be conversant with library vendors and acquisitions procedures as well as OCLC and other standard tools.


Position: Digital Resources Librarian

We are seeking an Digital Resources Librarian to join our stable growing contract in Alexandria, VA.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited, to the following:

Provides day-to-day cataloging and maintenance and updating of digital content and links to technical literature for library and information facilities.
Provides back-up support for custom Access database. Uses excel to create usage reports. Assists with providing information on approval plans and vendor packages.
Maintains searchable lists of electronic literature and ensures access from the library’s Intranet and online catalog (Horizon) including cataloging and downloading and editing bibliographic records.
Works with client staff to coordinate and facilitate project scope and requests. Works with digital resource vendors such as Ebsco, ProQuest, Safari Books to make sure access to resources is maintained.

Education/Qualifications:

Master’s in Library Science.
4 years’ experience leading and/or providing support in upgrading, maintaining, and creating content used in latest digital technologies.
Extensive experienced working with vendor packages for research libraries.

Some knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and applications such as SQL and Access
