Position: Circulation Manager

Salary Range: $20.88 – $21.50/hr

The primary purpose of this position is to deliver proactive, professional, and efficient circulation/access services to the students, faculty, staff, and other patrons of the Pence Law Library in American University’s Washington College of Law.

Incumbents in this position provide coverage and supervision of the circulation desk for all hours that the Pence Law Library is open, including time beyond normal business hours, such as evenings and weekends. Responsibilities include supervision and training of part-time Desk Attendants, collection maintenance, and basic directional and information assistance to patrons. Refers reference inquiries to Librarians. Additionally, this position coordinates the processing of Reserve materials, utilizes advanced functions of the Sierra ILS Circulation module, and advises the Access Services Librarian on the day-to-day needs and concerns encountered at the Circulation Desk. This position may assist with Interlibrary loan requests and processing. This position is considered essential personnel in the event of weather and other emergencies.

The incumbent must follow American University and Washington College of Law Human Resources policies and procedures.

This position is located in the Preservation Directorate of Library Services and the Collections Conservation Section of the Binding and Collections Care Division. To assure long-term access to collections, the Library regularly labels, binds, repairs and provides custom protective enclosures for new acquisitions, at-risk materials, and fragile and damaged media in all formats. The incumbent works under the direction of the Head, Collections Care Section, performs repairs, and constructs housing and protective enclosures for the Library’s collections.

This is a cataloging position which focuses on serials and electronic resources. The materials handled in this position are acquired through copyright receipt and are primarily English language with some in other European languages. The incumbent will be expected to spend at least half his or her time working with the directorate’s increasing number of electronic serials. The incumbent will be trained to perform selection duties as needed for the directorate.

This position is located in the U.S. Serials – Arts, Humanities & Sciences Section, U.S. Arts, Sciences, & Humanities, Acquisitions and Bibliographic Access Directorate, Library Services.
