Early Literacy Program Manager
The Early Literacy and Children’s Services Program Manager will:
Work with branch staff to develop children’s services to ensure that children are prepared to enter school ready to learn.
Lead community-wide outreach activities, such as the Library Link library card initiative for Kindergarten – Grade 12 students and the Summer Read and Learn Program.
Develop new and rich children’s learning programs on Science Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and Reading literacy.
Represent MCPL on local, state and national organizations that address issues concerning children.
Serve as the branch manager of the Noyes Library for Young Children.
Oversee the Jan Jablonski Early Literacy Training Center and Special Collection at the Noyes Library for Young Children
This is professional library work at an advanced level providing a wide range of library services to the public. The employee typically works in a diverse environment with children, teens, adults, seniors and people with disabilities. Service can be provided in the stacks with or without electronic devices, at an information point within the branch or outside our walls in the community. Service may be provided in person, by telephone, electronically or by social media. Work may also be assigned in ‘live chat’ and other social networking venues or in another functional area, such as materials selection in Collection Management, or information services in Virtual Services. These require knowledge of library and community resources and reference services in electronic and print media, familiarity with adult and teen learning theories and of customer and community wants and needs.
The Graphic Designer will create printed materials, such as bookmarks, newsletters, posters, flyers, brochures, annual reports, and calendar of events; design digital art, such as infographics, digital signage, digital photos, video, banners, presentation slides, and web/social media art; develop press releases for local news organizations and professional news outlets; and design a printed quarterly calendar of events. This position also will assist with the distribution of these materials to the library branches and community organizations.
Virtual Services Program Specialist
Montgomery County Public Libraries, an urban and diverse library system with 21 locations serving a population of 1 million residents seeks a Program Specialist to carry out a variety of assignments in support of providing virtual library services to the public through the library’s website, public catalog and social media. The successful candidate will create and maintain web pages and social media postings. This work will include designing and coding webpages, and writing, reviewing and editing website and social media content. The successful candidate will also assist in the creation and implementation of new website content, such as homepage updates, booklists, libguides, spotlights, videos, photos, calendar of events, and mobile apps, working with Virtual Services Staff, branch staff and IT staff.
