Duties
Reviews and develops systems security policy, guidelines, and procedures for systems processing multiple applications, requiring different and conflicting security controls, which are typically accessed by a widely distributed user community. Develops or explains policy and procedural controls related to physical security, application and data security, system software security, contingency planning, compliance with personnel clearance procedures, security education and training, and contractor security.

The United States Copyright Office, located within the Library of Congress and under the direction of the Register of Copyrights, administers the Copyright Law, advises Congress and government agencies on legal and policy matters; provides international representation on copyright issues; administers the national copyright registrations system; provides collections materials to the Library through voluntary registration and mandatory deposit programs; records documents relating to copyright chain of title; administers statutory license provisions of the law, including collecting royalty and filing fees, and distributing royalties; maintains the world’s largest database of copyright public records; and, provides information and reference services to the public.

This position is in the Curatorial Section of the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. The Prints and Photographs Division is responsible for one of the largest pictorial research collections in the world, holding more than 15 million items in a variety of visual formats contained in hundreds of individual collections, and stored in several locations and remote sites. The collections are among the most varied in medium, format, physical condition, and intellectual property rights requirements, with attendant concerns regarding security, preservation, safe handling and service. The collections are accessed by means of complex, diverse and often multi-layered intellectual controls and surrogates in textual and online forms. They encompass the full range of subject, format and geographical specialties collected by the Library, and serve as primary research documents from which secondary research documents, e.g., books and websites, are derived. This photography curator works with documentary images in the context of a broader field of specialization such as the history of Photography. Curators are responsible for the development of the collections (acquisitions), and for research, reference, processing, preservation, exhibit, and publication activities in their designated collection area.

The incumbent will function as the Contract Specialist, providing support to the Supervisory Contract Specialist of FEDLINK.
