The Congressional Research Service (CRS), Knowledge Services Group (KSG) seeks two Reference and Digital Services Librarians to join its Reference and Information Services Section. The selectees will perform reference and instructional services, and will maintain and develop web-based information tools and services.

Candidates with a Master of Library Science (MLS) or equivalent degree or experience; knowledge of current and emerging practices of librarianship or other fields and disciplines related to the organization of information; and an understanding of the principles of information management, metadata, and information retrieval are encouraged to apply.

The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area.

The selectee will work a 40-hour week and may be required to provide evening and Saturday reference desk coverage, including Monday through Thursday, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Saturday work is required only when Congress is in session). The remaining work hours (non-evening/Saturday) will be determined based on workload and coverage needs, and will contribute to the total of 40 hours per week.

The incumbent of this position may elect to work a flexitime or compflex work schedule.

This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position.

Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement.

Position: Regional Assistant Branch Manager (Librarian III)

Location: Fairfax County Government – Chantilly and Reston, Virginia
Salary: $57,165.00 – $95,276.00 (Yearly Salary)

Regional Assistant Branch Manager (Librarian III)

Manages regional library in the absence of the branch manager. Trains, supervises and evaluates subordinate personnel. Responds to the needs of library customers at the information desk. May speak to community groups to market library services. Participates on management team to develop objectives and work plans for the branch. The Fairfax County Public Library retains the ability to transfer employees to any location where coverage is deemed necessary.

Access Services Librarian

The Access Services Librarian is the lead person for Circulation and Reader Services at the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon. The incumbent will manage the circulation desk and the dissemination of information to researchers which includes, but is not limited to, facilitating research requests through reference services; managing the paging, circulation, and delivery of materials to constituents; maintaining access to electronic resources; monitoring the reading room and the use of non-circulating items, including assisting with document handling; and ILL services. As the first point of access for visitors and researchers, the librarian will maintain library appointments, receive guests into the building, conduct tours, and will function as the liaison to the library collections and building staff. For the successful operation of the circulation desk the librarian will be responsible for coordinating, training, and managing a staff of volunteers and one part-time support personnel. The incumbent serves as a principal participant in the planning and implementation of the library’s robust community and institutional outreach initiatives and will lead the information literacy program. In addition, the position maintains cumulative data on library usage and patron visitation, and serves as a key member of the collection development committee.
