Position: Assistant Librarian

Capitol Technology University, a nonprofit university located in Laurel, Maryland seeks an Assistant Librarian to assist in running the University Library. Personal initiative, problem-solving skills, and a strong belief in customer service are required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Be creative and service oriented with the diverse faculty, staff and student body
Keep statistical records necessary for reports requested by the U.S. Office of Education, State Agencies and Accrediting bodies.
Partner with the Library Director developing, evaluating and providing instruction to first-year students in obtaining information literacy skills
Update the website and portal with current and relevant information about events, changes to hours, library services, etc.
Responsible for checking and responding to emails
Assist with all research questions and search requests
Keep track of technical services accounts/invoicing and changes in service
Regularly work within EOSinternational, the library’s OPAC to ensure:

records are up to date, new items are processed and added to the collection (see cataloging manual)
over-dues are run every week
the static date is refreshed each semester
graduates are tracked prior to commencement to ensure all items are returned and fines paid, otherwise ID students to Registrar for a hold
when URLS are all updated , ensure all links are checked on website and portal

Supervise and assign duties of the cataloging student aide
Turn It In –create accounts for professors as the administrator and provide links to the tutorials on TII’s website
Contribute to the school’s social media outreach
Support program development:

Schedule
Ensure all flyers and notices for programs are advertised on social media as well as traditional forms
Evaluate

Suggest items and resources for collection development
Write briefs as requested by director highlighting new additions; possible research into new additions
Lead monthly Book Club

POSITION SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or related fields
Experience with developing and posting Web content
Supervisory and scheduling experience with student workers
One to two years reference and instruction experience
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently, within a team environment, and with diverse groups
Experience with Drupal coding preferred

Reference & Circulation Librarian (Manager)

Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia Institute) is the leading academic institution for integrative health in the nation. The Sherman Cohn Library at Maryland University of Integrative Health is seeking a personable, dedicated, technology-savvy, customer-service oriented individual to work as the Reference adn Circulation Librarian. The Librarian/Manager holds primary responsibility for the Reference and Circulation functions of the Sherman Cohn Library. This position reports to the Director of Library Services and works closely with Library administration, the Registrar, and other University personnel to serve all Library patrons effectively.

This managerial position is exempt and full-time, working approximately 35 hours per week on a set schedule. The schedule for the Librarian/Manager includes both administrative work hours, shifts at the Library Desk and time providing research consultations and is shown below:

Tuesday – 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday – 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Thursday – 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Friday – 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Saturday – 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Sometimes the Librarian/Manager will be required to work other shifts or different hours in order to fulfill faculty requests for Library instruction within their classes, to keep the Library Desk staffed, or to accommodate students needs for research consultations.
Responsibilities/ Duties

Responsibilities/duties include and are not limited to:
Holding primary responsibility for all operations of the Library Desk including the management of: Library Desk Staff (scheduling, training, coaching, and performance appraisal), patron records, circulation functions, conflict resolution, and ready-reference work
Serving as an on-call Reference Librarian, managing the physical and virtual reference collections, creating instructional materials, engaging in research consultations
Providing primary supervision for a staff of 3-6 part-time employees manning the Library
Desk; organizing, arranging, and scheduling Library staff meetings three times per year and as requested by the Library Director
Working shifts at the Library Desk and ensuring that the Library Desk Is staffed at all times, including filling in for absentee Library Assistants when necessary
Resolving issues pertaining to customer service or satisfaction in an equitable, timely, and efficient manner
Functioning as a Teaching Assistant within the Library’s Information literacy course, working as a guest lecturer or embedded librarian within other University courses or academic events as requested
Addressing monthly overdue issues and bringing chronic overdue issues to the attention of the Budget & Acquisitions Manager
Insuring that the ILS Circulation and Patron Management functions are calibrated to accurately reflect and enforce Library policies, and maintaining patron records between the Integrated Library System (ILS) and School Information System (SIS)–or other systems utilized, including the processing of student graduation requests in a timely manner
Monitoring and troubleshooting patron issues pertaining to the ILS and other database systems, and reaching the MUIH IT department or product vendors to place service tickets as necessary
Working with Library administration, staff, and academic stakeholders about collection use and anticipated needs in order to guide collection development
Participating in meetings, conferences, events, or gatherings within or outside of the University as requested by the Library Director
Keeping up-to-date in the field of librarianship and engaging in professional development activities through graduate and post-graduate courses, membership in professional
organizations, travel, staff development activities, community service, research, work experience or related activities
Generating reports and maintaining statistics
Engaging in special project work as requested
Performing other duties as necessary

Qualifications
Required:
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or program
A graduate or undergraduate degree or other documented learning In a discipline taught at or similar to those offered at MUIH
OR a demonstrated familiarity with complementary, alternative,and integrative medicine
3 to 5 years of managerial experience
3 to 5 years of Reference experience, preferably in a University or special library setting
Experience working with or teaching adult learners
Excellent interpersonal,communication, and writing skills
Great attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to appropriately handle confidential information
Knowledge of or the ability to learn how to operate:
a copier/scanner/printer
various Web resources such as databases, wlkis, and learning management systems
the Sierra integrated library system (ILS) or other ILS
Proficiency in the use of MS Office applications-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including, but not limited to: lifting up to 30 pounds, bending, stretching, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and sitting or standing for long periods of time

Catalog & Serials Librarian (Manager)

This position reports to the Director of Library Services and works closely with Library administration, academicians, and other University personnel to serve all Library patrons effectively. The position is exempt and full-time, working approximately 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

Responsibilities/ Duties

Responsibilities/duties include and are not limited to:
Working with Library administration, staff, and academic stakeholders to manage the full lifecycle of print and electronic media, from receipt through placement in an active collection, back file, archive, group marked for deaccession
Utilizing current cataloging conventions to catalog materials by manual entry or record import whether copy cataloging or engaging in original cataloging, and to create, use, and maintain authority records
Negotiating licensing and retention terms for electronic serials and other electronic media within or outside of the University’s membership in the Maryland Digital Library
Reaching outside vendors or working with the University’s IT Department to solve issues pertaining to customer access to materials in an equitable, timely, and efficient manner
Keeping a schedule of necessary renewal dates and attending to renewals promptly to ensure continuity and consistency in the delivery of subscription resources and services
Using the Sierra Integrated Library System’s CASE loads to incorporate records linking to full text materials from subscriptions and freely-available services into the Library’s Catalog
Managing document delivery procurement using Docline and other systems and services, relaying sent materials to requestors, and keeping a log of requests
Working with the Library Director and academic stakeholders to further develop the Library’s Digital Repository in alignment with the Library’s mission
Participating in meetings, conferences, events, or gatherings within or outside of the University as requested by the Library Director
Keeping up-to-date in the field of librarianship and engaging in professional development activities through graduate and post-graduate courses, membership in professional organizations, travel, staff development activities, community service, research, work experience or related activities
Generating reports and maintaining statistics
Engaging in special project work as requested
Performing other duties as necessary

Qualifications
Required:

Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or program
3 to 5 years of experience negotiating subscription and database licensing agreements
1 to 3 years of experience working as a Catalog librarian
Knowledge of RDA, AACR2r, LCSH, LC Classification, MARC21formats, and Dublin Core
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills
Great attention to detail
Ability to appropriately handle confidential information
Knowledge of or the ability to learn how to operate:
a copier/scanner/printer
various Web resources such as databases, wikis, and learning management systems
the Sierra integrated library system (ILS) or other ILS
Proficiency in the use of MS Office applications-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook
