Two Librarian Positions – Maryland

Position: Library Services Supervisor

Frostburg State University, Lewis J. Ort Library, seeks applications for a full-time, non-exempt Library Services Supervisor position in the User Services Division. Hourly rate $19.84; University System of Maryland benefits package included. May be required to work evenings and weekends if needed.

Responsibilities: Under general supervision of the Associate Director for Library User Services, supervise collections, manage media equipment, and provide high-quality customer service in the form of traditional and online research services for the Media Department. Serve as the expert operator for media/microform equipment. Co-supervise a full-time Library Services Specialist as well as hiring, training, scheduling, and assigning projects to student workers. Collect and analyze data and generate reports. Assist library faculty and staff with use of Microsoft Office applications. Contribute one hour of service weekly to AskUsNow, a shared chat information service available to the academic and public library community. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position with at least one year in a lead or supervisory capacity. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the nature and function of libraries; of library services, standards, and procedures; of bibliographic tools and records, publishing and publication formats, and library information storage and retrieval systems.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience supervising library support staff and student workers and creating a desk schedule. Proficiency to design publications using advanced graphics skills and to prepare reports using Microsoft Excel. Working knowledge of media/microform equipment, personal computers, photocopiers, printers, and scanners. Experience conducting an inventory of resources. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of library patrons.

Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited program plus one year work experience in a library.

Preferred Requirement: Supervisory experience.

Necessary Special Requirements: Ability to secure certification as a Professional Public Librarian in the State of Maryland within 120 days following appointment; ability to meet re-certification requirements by completing 90 contact hours of continuing education every 5 years.
Responsibilities:

Providing library services of reference, readers’ advisory, programming and outreach, and library instruction to the public of all ages. Acts as part of branch’s management team and assists in the management of branch operations, and the supervision of branch staff. May assume responsibility for branch operations as designated person in charge in absence of management.

Interviews will tentatively be held during mid to late August 2016. Tentative start date is early to mid-September 2016.
