Duties listed below are those of a Librarian performing at the Full Performance Level (FPL) GS-11. Positions at the GS-07 and GS-09 levels will have similar duties to be performed with progression to the duties of a GS-11.

Serves as a librarian responsible for providing information retrieval services and customized products to DTIC’s customers. Provides expertise in organizing, accessing, and disseminating scientific and technical information in a specialized subject area to meet the needs of the DTIC user community. Serves as a source of information and ideas on retrieval of scientific data.Formulates search strategies to retrieve information from DTIC databases and collaborative tools (e.g., Technical Report, Unified Research and Engineering, Independent Research and Development, DoDTechipedia and DoDTechSpace), as well as other DoD, government and commercial databases.Represents DTIC at off-site exhibits and conferences, as well as, providing general and specialized training at users’ sites.

Position: Information Architect/Taxonomy Specialist

Location: LAC Federal – Fort Belvoir, VA

LAC Federal is looking for an experienced Information Architect/Taxonomy Specialist to lead a team of information professionals in developing and managing an extensive Federal knowledge base and repository. The Architect will also lead the development and maintenance of an enterprise taxonomy that encapsulates the full organization body of knowledge and practice. This Architect will work with contract and Federal staff to develop the project timelines and goals and will be responsible for regular reports, training of agency staff, and coordinating with information technology staff in the identification and implementation of appropriate technologies to manage the taxonomy including an auto-categorization tool.

REQUIRED:

A graduate degree in either Information Management or Library and Information Science
Extensive experience in developing and maintaining enterprise taxonomies, thesauri, and ontologies
Experience implementing and configuring tools for taxonomy management including auto-categorization software solutions
Expertise in the most up-to-date practices and technologies in Semantic Web development and management
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to work alone and collaboratively across multiple functional areas to support a project
Ability to pass a background check

PREFERRED:

A background in business and/or acquisition metadata
Familiarity with DoD policies and procedures

Library Technician

The Library Technician will be responsible for supporting and maintaining a lending library and historical archival repository focused on personnel recovery and other related topics. The holder of this position will work with other library staff members to handle tasks such as circulation, collection development, book ordering, and cataloging (both original and copy).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
– Use copy cataloging techniques to create entries for all new and purchased materials.
– Provide circulation support.
– Assist library staff with collection development and management, including inventorying collections in all branch locations.
– Respond to requests for research assistance using both internal and external resources.
– Purchase books and media for all branch locations.
– Manage and track all book and media requests from staff members each fiscal year.
– Maintain metrics on the circulation of materials, the type of requests, the directorates of the requestors and borrowers, new materials added, and items cataloged.
– Use original MAchine-Readable Cataloging (MARC) to create entries for archival documents.

Electronic Resources Librarian

Under supervision of the Associate Director of Collections, the incumbent performs highly responsible and varied administrative/Librarian tasks in support of managing the lifecycle of electronic resources for DC Public Library. The successful candidate will possess strong project management skills, communicate effectively, and establish departmental best practices. This position will act as the leader with collections e-content vendors.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate procedures and workflows related to the selection, management, licensing, and access to electronic collections.

Monitor industry for enhancements and new products and make recommendations as appropriate.

Works collaboratively within the library to troubleshoot and resolve problems as they pertain to the access of licensed electronic resources, databases and e-content, including authentication, linking options, interface customization, and access.

Collects, analyses, and reports usage data of electronic content. Assess and evaluate electronic resource holdings.

Maintains a current awareness of emerging trends to ensure Library’s electronic resources are compliant with industry-wide best practices.


Position: Library Assistant

Location: Brookings Institution – Washington, DC
Status: Part time (25 hours a week), with benefits
Salary: $16.00 per hour

Bachelor’s degree required. Familiarity with OCLC and automated library systems preferred. Must have excellent communication skills, attention to detail and accuracy, ability to lift and move heavy library books, ability to pick up and deliver books from area libraries. Familiarity with document imaging and management systems a plus.
