Vacancy #16-55, Assistant Branch Manager, Joppa Branch

Responsible for assisting with managing the operations, activities, and staff of the branch; serves as head of Children’s Services for the branch; directly supervises hourly reference staff, including reference substitutes, custodial staff and volunteers as assigned; oversees the training of reference staff; provides reference, collection and reader’s advisory services to the public in all service areas; works on reference desk as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Meets minimum public service hours as defined by Library Administration.

Position: Part-time HR Clerk

Location: Anne Arundel County Public Library – Annapolis, MD
Hours per week: 18.00
Salary range: $13.79/hour

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from a standard high school or equivalency program, preferably supplemented by some computer and clerical training; or an equivalent combination of experience and training that has provided the knowledge, abilities, and skills listed in the
job description.

Required: Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities:

Work involves routine and varied clerical tasks in the Human Resources Department. Responsibilities include assisting the Staff Development Coordinator with data entry, word processing, filing and other tasks related to the Library’s training program and certification requirements. Also provides general clerical assistance to the department – filing, mail distribution, copying, etc.

Interviews will tentatively be scheduled during the week of July 5th and/or July 11th, 2016. Tentative target start date is late July to early August, 2016.


Position: Lower School Librarian

Location: Gilman School – Baltimore, MD

The Position

Gilman School seeks a Lower School librarian to teach research and library skills classes to grades K-5, collaborate with colleagues on class projects, manage the library collection and space, and work with the Lower School technology director and others to promote design thinking and inquiry-based learning in the division.

The librarian is a member of the Department of Libraries and the Lower School Faculty. As an integral member of the Lower School, the librarian regularly attends grade level meetings, collaborates with homeroom and resource teachers, and is assigned duties as needed. The librarian collaborates on electronic resources, budget issues and scope and sequence with other divisional librarians. The library is adjacent to the new Lower School makerspace and the librarian will work with others to incorporate this into the Lower School program. Candidates should have a passion for teaching in ways that integrate print, digital, and hands-on experiences.

A master’s degree in library science is preferred; experience with teaching and technology in a Lower School environment is required. The salary for this position is very competitive in the Baltimore area.

Education/Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, and successful completion of the Library Associates Training Institute, or MLS from an ALA accredited school
Comprehensive knowledge of public library services and operations acquired through two years of increasing responsibility and work experience in a public library
Knowledge of print, electronic and online information resources
Ability to establish and maintain relationships with customers, community groups and co-workers of diverse backgrounds
Ability to plan, organize and present a variety of activities and presentations
Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
Willingness and ability to travel throughout the system, work a variety of schedules that include evenings and weekends and accept system-wide transfers
Must pass post offer criminal background check, drug screen, and physical

Position: Library Desk Manager

LIBRARY DESK MANAGER

The Sherman Cohn Library at Maryland University of Integrative Health is seeking a personable, dedicated, technology-savvy, customer-service oriented individual to work full-time as the Library Desk Manager. This is a hands-on position, wherein the Information Manager holds primary responsibility for the operation of all Library Desk services and functions, maintains the accuracy and currency of checklists and procedural guides for Desk staff, and ensures that the needs of all patrons of the Library are met in a timely and courteous manner. This position reports to the Director of Library Services and works closely with Library administration, the Registrar, and other University personnel to serve all Library patrons effectively.

Responsibilities/Duties
Responsibilities/duties include and are not limited to:

Holding primary responsibility for all operations of the Library Desk, including the management of patron records, the management, scheduling and training of staff, circulation functions, conflict resolution, ready-reference work, patron appointment management, serial check-in, and cataloging activities
Providing primary supervision for a staff of 3-5 part-time Library Assistants
Maintaining the accuracy and currency of calendars, checklists, and procedural guides on paper, and in electronic form for Library Desk staff
Working several shifts at the Library Desk and offering research appointments
Ensuring that the Library Desk is staffed at all times, including filling in for absentee Library Assistants when necessary
Working with Library administration to remain informed about Library procedures and resources relevant to patron service at the Library Desk
Resolving issues pertaining to customer service or satisfaction in an equitable, timely, and efficient manner
Ensuring that monthly overdue issues and chronic overdue issues are resolved
Maintaining patron records between the Integrated Library System (ILS) and School Information System (SIS)–or other systems utilized
Processing student graduation requests in a timely manner
Insuring that the ILS Circulation and Patron Management functions are calibrated to accurately reflect and enforce Library policies
Monitoring and troubleshooting patron issues pertaining to the ILS and other database systems, and reaching the MUIH IT department or product vendors to place service tickets as necessary
Organizing, arranging, and scheduling Library staff meetings three times per year and as requested by the Library Director
Working with the Budget and Acquisitions Manager to engage in cataloging work and to delegate cataloging work and physical processing of library materials to Library Assistants
Generating circulation reports and maintaining statistics
Assisting with or leading collection management initiatives as assigned
Engaging in special project work as requested
Performing other duties as necessary
