Position: Regional Librarian
Location: Anne Arundel County Public Library – Annapolis, MD
Salary range: $51,445 – $85,684

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program. Three years of professional experience in the provision of library services, including two years supervisory experience.

Necessary Special Requirements: Ability to secure certification as a Professional Public Librarian in the State of Maryland within 120 days following appointment; ability to meet re-certification requirements by completing 90 contact hours of continuing education every 5 years.

Public Library experience is preferred.

Responsibilities:

Professional, managerial level work in supervising public service and/or operational functions of a regional library. Provides direct public service and shares responsibility for managing the daily operations of the regional library.

Interviews will tentatively be scheduled during the week of July 5th and or July 11, 2016. Tentative target start date is late July to early August, 2016.

Location: Baltimore County Public Library – Owings Mills Branch

Key Responsibilities:

 Proactively assists customers in finding answers to a broad range of questions through the use of print and on-line resources, computer applications, and community referrals

 Provides one-on- one instruction for technology related requests for service including e-reader devices

 Guides customers of all ages in selecting appropriate materials for reading, viewing, and listening

 Maintains a portion of the Library’s collection and uses creativity in preparing displays and merchandizing materials

 Plans, organizes, and presents engaging programs and outreach activities

 Supervises assigned part-time librarian staff

 Serves as a resource to others when answering policy and procedural questions

 Provides service in alignment with BCPL’s customer service philosophy and the organization’s strategic direction

 Enforces library rules and policies

 Supports innovation by embracing change, supporting intelligent risk-taking and anticipating customers’ needs

 Demonstrates initiative by being a self-starter, rethinking processes, and effectively solving problems

 Demonstrates a commitment to teamwork by being an effective communicator and engaging in respectful and productive work relationships

 Proactively pursues continuous learning by participating in training opportunities and joining workplace teams

Education/Experience Requirements:

 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, and successful completion of the Library Associates Training Institute, or MLS from an ALA accredited school

 Comprehensive knowledge of public library services and operations acquired through two years of increasing responsibility and work experience in a public library

 Knowledge of print, electronic and online information resources

 Ability to establish and maintain relationships with customers, community groups and co-workers of diverse backgrounds

 Ability to plan, organize and present a variety of activities and presentations

 Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills

 Willingness and ability to travel throughout the system, work a variety of schedules that include evenings and weekends and accept system-wide transfers

 Must pass post offer criminal background check, drug screen, and physical

We offer an excellent benefit package that includes 4 weeks of vacation and other paid leave, a variety of subsidized health care options, pension eligibility, and other related benefits. Annualized Salary: $43,159 – $57,811 commensurate with experience.
