The Cullman Library holds the Smithsonian’s collection of rare books in anthropology and the natural sciences. Its world-class collection contains approximately 10,000 volumes published before 1840 in the fields of physical and cultural anthropology, ethnology, Native American linguistics, and archeology; botany; ornithology, mammalogy, herpetology, ichthyology, entomology, malacology, and other zoological fields; paleontology; and geology and mineralogy.
Under the general direction of the Head of Special Collections and the Curator of Natural History Rare Books (Curator), the Special Collections Library Technician of the Cullman Library (SCLTCL) provides technical and reference assistance in the management, maintenance, and service functions of the Joseph F. Cullman 3rd Library of Natural History. The purpose of this position is to provide technical support to the Cullman Library. The SCLTCL also participates in an integrated special collections program and contributes to the overall goals of a major research library. In addition, the incumbent will perform similar duties in the Dibner Library of the History of Science and Technology when required.
