St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, MD seeks candidates for the position of Instructional Librarian to begin August 15, 2016.

Founded in 1978, St. Andrew’s is a co-educational independent day school, enrolling approximately 550 students in preschool-grade 12. The school has two campuses three miles apart. The Potomac Village Campus (preschool-grade 2) is on the grounds of St. Francis Episcopal Church and the19-acre Postoak Campus (grades 3-12) is on Postoak Road in Potomac.

The instructional librarian works closely with the director of the Dreyfuss Library to create a vibrant learning space conducive to independent and group inquiry. Candidates should have an MLS/MLIS from an accredited program as well as 3-5 years experience, and be ready to assist in all aspects of library operations. Ideal candidates will be passionate about working with middle and high school students and faculty to promote critical thinking, questioning, and creating as they teach 21st century information skills in a technology-rich environment. In 2016, St. Andrew’s will open its new multi-faceted Student Center on the campus, as well as a new makerspace adjacent to the library. We are seeking a librarian eager to help us evaluate how these new installations will grow our future vision for library spaces and purpose beyond the traditional.

Description

The Librarian supports the Head Librarian in planning, implementing, and evaluating the school library
program. Successful implementation of this program requires creating an environment that fosters a sense of excitement about literature, books, information, and text. It also includes teaching research and information skills, collaborating with teachers in implementing integrated instructional activities, serving as an information specialist to assist teachers and students, implementing the latest in information technology to support the work of the library, and performing other related duties that may be required.

While the Head Librarian and Librarian work collaboratively, the Librarian works to support the Head Librarian in organizing and sharing day-to-day responsibilities.
