Stevenson University Library in Stevenson, Maryland (Greenspring Campus) invites applications for a new Discovery Services Librarian position.

Summary

The Discovery Services Librarian (DSL) will work to strengthen access to library collections, resources and services. Providing leadership in managing and making discoverable the library’s electronic collections, the DSL will design, develop, and promote ways to create a seamless discovery experience to support the teaching, learning and research initiatives of the university.

Qualifications

Master of Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-approved program, plus at least five years of experience in collection resources management and user services or equivalent combination of education and experience. Higher education library experience preferred.

Position: Graduate Librarian
Location: Stratford Unviersity – Falls Church, VA

This position will be working very closely with Stratford’s new doctoral programs in Business and Information Technology, as well as supporting our master’s programs. The deadline for this position has recently been extended!

Functions:

40%: Library-related tasks

o The Graduate Librarian will be expected to develop and follow through with a variety of independent and collaborative tasks that include, but are not limited to, instructional design, reference service, outreach, and marketing

o Serves as embedded librarian for both doctoral- and master’s-level students

30%: Library Instruction

o Assist students and faculty in the use of the library collection, research materials, technology, and area resources

o Identify and provide access to the resources needed to support Stratford’s academic programs

o Instruct students on a formal and informal basis in skills related to identifying and interpreting research information and communicating the content of research material in written and visual presentations

10%: Collection Development:

o Assist the Librarian in continually developing, evaluating, and maintaining the library collection to meet the needs of the students and faculty

10%: Maintenance and Administrative Tasks

o Perform library maintenance and administrative tasks such as copy and original cataloging, placing work orders for library technology, and serving as a liaison between academic departments and the library

5%: Textbooks

o Act as a liaison between the campus community and textbook coordinator and support students and faculty in troubleshooting issues

5%: Other duties as assigned

o Recommend changes and improvements in processes

Stratford University’s Falls Church campus is a small private college with a focus on career-oriented majors, like nursing and business administration. In the library, our focuses are on teaching and helping students learn how to do research. This librarian is an integral part of that effort.
