Vacancy #16-21, Specialist IV – ILS

Manages the day-to-day responsibilities associated with the library’s integrated library system (ILS), including circulation, cataloging, acquisitions, ILL modules and associated databases and systems, and ensures optimal performance. Serves as ILS liaison with Harford Community College. Provides technical assistance to vendors & support organizations with the ILS. Recommends and implements ILS modules and enhancements to advance processes and improve customer service. Ensures accuracy and integrity of the library’s databases of MARC bibliographic, item and customer records. May make presentations or represent the Library with other organizations. Meets minimum public service hours as defined by Library Administration. Starting Salary: $43,034 – $47,340/annual based on 37.5 hour work week (commensurate with experience). Excellent benefits package includes leave, health/dental/vision/drug program, deferred compensation program, pension. Work schedule will include day, evening and weekend hours. The individual selected for this position will:

-Provide expertise and oversight for the communication of information regarding Library programs and services to various internal and external stakeholders and constituencies through traditional, electronic, and social media vehicles as well as targeted outreach initiatives.

-Design marketing and promotional programs and initiatives for library and technology services available to a diverse community of biomedical researchers and other internal and external audiences.

-Research and analyze the needs of a broad range of library users, stakeholders, and constituencies, including identifying user practices, knowledge levels, utilization of various media, and emerging technology trends and preferences.

-Research and identify opportunities to enhance and expand library communication efforts and initiatives through utilization of new technologies and social media.

-Lead and participate in outreach activities, such as exhibits, conferences, and seminars, to increase awareness of library resources and services and to enhance the image and visibility of the Library.

Description

Provides general and specialized reference information to patrons, whether received by phone, mail, walk-in, fax, or e-mail; Performs searches for information using automated retrieval systems such as KOHA, OCLC, DHS Library’s databases and the Internet; Responsible for weekly and monthly reports pertaining to the library collection and to fire fatalities; Performs user orientations about the library; Promote and conduct information literacy classes; Assists in the supervision of the library technicians and library clerk; Collects statistical user information on a daily basis; Performs other professional and operational duties as assigned by the Project Manager

Requirements

Must have an ALA-accredited MLS or MIS. High level of expertise in reference services and use of online resources. Demonstratively strong customer service skills and ability to work with a variety of people including students, faculty, staff and the general public. Strong presentation/teaching skills. Proficiency in oral and written communication. Experience with KOHA Open Access ILS and strong knowledge of HTML and XML preferred. Must be willing to work one evening for week and an occassional weekend.
