DUTIES:

This Lead Acquisitions Librarian position serves as Team Leader for the Acquisitions unit in A/GIS/IPS/LIBR/IR providing technical direction to other employees and directing the work flow of the unit.

Serves as the Library’s Collection Development Librarian by coordinating the recommendation and selection of materials and prioritizing procurement.

Carries out the most intricate acquisitions procedures requiring specialized knowledge of sources for the searching out and identification of new channels of procurement.

Serves as Level I Contracting Officer and review and approves routine purchase orders for publications in all formats.

Cultivates important relationships with clients and the bureau staff who depend on the library’s acquisitions services for their subscriptions, and a strong customer relationship with the vendors who supply the Department’s information materials.

DUTIES:

As a Librarian you will be responsible for the following duties:

Serving as a librarian responsible for the full scope of library operations with oversight of library personnel.
Directing daily library operations in a highly complex environment to provide responsive information services to the organization.
Administering reference and research services, determining information needs of the organization and managing information resource selections.
Establishing and maintaining circulation and inter-library loan services.

Serving as the senior librarian, responsible for providing comprehensive research, reference advisory, evaluative and instructional services to the DOD, OSD and Joint Staff, HQ Staff assigned to the Pentagon Reservation, as well as other senior military and government leaders.
Planning for the development, organization and management of the library collection and oversees management of all format and subject areas.
Reviewing and evaluating library holdings in all subject areas for strengths, weaknesses and trends, in an effort to assure currency and balance, through continuous review of publishers’ announcements, library literature, professional periodicals and in consultation with researchers and other subject specialists.
