The Information Services Team (IST) Lead is a senior member of the Library team, responsible for supervising the NASA Goddard Library IS; day-to-day supervision of the Library’s reference/research services, circulation, access services, the information desk, Interlibrary Loan (ILL), maintenance of the physical collection, outreach, current awareness, and educational aspects of the Library. The IST Lead provides assistance to customers in navigating information resources available and provides expert reference and research services. The IST Lead also holds responsibility for the physical Library environment.


Collaborates with the Leadership Team to develop new ideas, concepts, and methodologies to benefit the Library.
Ensures coverage of all IST activities, Information Desk, QuestionPoint, ILL, and Circulation.
Supervises the IST, including assignment/monitoring of tasks and performance evaluations
Compiles, enters, and maintains metrics data, and provides departmental representation in oral and written reporting on team activities.
Updates procedures and policies.
Produces management reports (weekly/monthly/annual) and project deliverables.
Provides marketing/outreach. Develops/publishes Dateline announcements and blog articles. Conceptualizes/develops in-Library displays. Develops current awareness materials to promote the Library.
Works with the Leadership Team to identify/develop educational events and presentations to benefit Goddard personnel and promote Library services.


MLS from accredited library school
Experience with Interlibrary Loans
3+ years Reference and Information Services experience
3+ years of library supervisory experience
Proven ability to stay abreast of new trends in libraries and technology
Sirsi/Dynix or comparable ILS experience
Proven oral and written communication and organizational skills
USA citizen


Knowledge of scientific and technical information resources
Previous experience in Federal Library environment
