Georgetown University Law Library is seeking applications for an International and Foreign Law Reference and Access Librarian, based in the John Wolff International & Comparative Law Library.

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Law Librarian for International and Foreign Law, this position is responsible for the staffing, supervision, and scheduling of the international circulation desk, and coordinating and training the staff responsible for the daily operations of the John Wolff International and Comparative Law Library. The position directly supervises staff positions, which, in turn, hire and supervise student employees. At a time of transition to a balance of electronic and print materials, this librarian will make full use of an integrated library system and provide administrative, bibliographic, training, and scheduling services in coordination with other circulation and reference points; together they enable the smooth running of the entire law library operation. By providing information and analysis to anticipate user preferences and trends and to rationalize the provision of services, this position may coordinate major shifts of physical materials in the international collection. Participation in an established reference rotation and availability for projects relating to reference, research, and access to electronic information are included in the responsibilities, along with participation in initiatives relating to digitization of the collection.

Required: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and/or information studies; excellent knowledge of legal materials; superior communication skills. At least three years of library experience, one of which should be in reference/circulation (public services or an equivalent combination of education or experience); a strong service orientation; supervisory experience; the ability to work under pressure and set priorities; law library experience; and knowledge of the legal research process. Familiarity with office software such as word processing, spreadsheets; familiarity with online library systems and resources such as Innovative/Sierra, OCLC, Lexis/Westlaw, and the internet.

Must show a commitment to the values of patron service, stewardship of library resources, and a collegial, collaborative work environment.

Preferred: JD or equivalent degree; relevant field of study such as International Relations or work with international documents, along with reading knowledge of a foreign language. Familiarity with database managers and web authoring.
