Min qual: Master’s in Early Childhood Education, Family Studies or equivalent degree, preferred or Master’s In Library Science or approved program from ALA accredited institution. Ability to obtain State of MD certification if MLS w/in 6 months of start date or Add’l 90 hour state training for non-MLS degree; 3 yrs related professional library exp., preferably in public library incl 2 yrs in a children’s and teens leadership or managerial position. The Reader Services Librarian will join the Research Services of the Dumbarton Oaks Library and will serve as the initial point of contact for research and collections access. This includes developing and maintaining services for research fellows and visiting researchers in coordination with Dumbarton Oaks’ academic programs. The Reader Services Librarian will manage access requests, research appointments in the library and archives, and image requests. The Reader Services Librarian will coordinate reference with the subject librarians. S/he will also supervise inter-library loan staff and services and the implementation of automated collection accounting.

The Learning Commons Coordinator/Media Specialist will possess the passion and energy required to support student-centered, research-based learning and teaching and the project approach to learning throughout the school.

Responsibilities and Duties

Participate in the redesign of the physical space of the library and technology center, to include recommendations about furnishings, equipment, and resources.
In collaboration with teachers and directors develop and teach research and technology lessons; develop reading/app/website lists; create Learning Commons web page.
Provide instruction in technology and media literacy (3rd-8th grade).
Lead library/story time (PS-3rd grade); schedule parent readers (PS-3rd grade).
Share expertise by presenting at faculty meetings.
Prepare and administer an annual budget for collection development and hardware and software purchases.
Manage all aspects of circulation and collections: order new titles to meet the needs of curriculum.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Directors.
