As a Library Technician, GS-1411-07/08 in the Preservation and Collection Management Section, you will:
Assist with digitization of selected materials by performing scanning activities; quality assurance of onsite contractors’ completed work; and recovery from water leaks and other disasters involving the collection.
Determine if serial volumes are missing from the collection and assist libraries using the NLM journal donation system.
Review damaged items and refer them for repair, binding or other actions as appropriate; maintain tracking information about various collection management activities; ensure that book repair and conservation supplies are available; and review quality of repaired items.
Maintain NLM’s online catalog; update bibliographic records and create or update holdings and item records; assist in training PCM staff to search and maintain bibliographic records; and perform quality assurance review of record updating done by staff and contractors.
Assist with measuring the collection, performing minor shifts, calculating growth space, maintaining floor plans and planning collection moves; and assist with the environmental monitoring program.
Use knowledge of collections, NLM’s DOCLINE system, standard reference tools, specialized works, and online reference tools to provide support to NLM’s interlibrary loan program.
Use knowledge of collections, NLM’s Online Catalog and Voyager system, standard and online reference tools, and Reading Room services and policies, to respond to requests for assistance and requests for stack retrieval service from members of the public in NLM’s Main Reading Room.
Perform first level assessment and troubleshooting of hardware and software problems.
