Deputy Director of the Law Library – Georgetown University Law Library

The Georgetown University Law Library is seeking applications for the position of Deputy Director of the Law Library.

The Deputy Director is responsible to the Law Library Director and assists in the development and implementation of the mission, goals, and broad policy directions for the Georgetown University Law Library.  The position works closely with the Director in providing leadership in strategic planning, administration, assessment, communication, and resource allocation; coordinates the activities and personnel in the law library; and assumes overall responsibility for the Law Library in the absence of the Director.  The Deputy Director supervises the majority of the library’s departments, including reference, access services, research services, cataloging, acquisitions, and collection development.

The position reports to the Law Library Director and supervises six department heads. The Deputy Director is a member of the senior management team and plays an active role in library planning and services.

Required:

Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and/or information studies, or equivalent; minimum of 5 years’ significant and progressively responsible management experience in a law library; commitment to mentoring and support for staff professional development; knowledge of a wide range of library and information resources and services; ability to establish and maintain effective working and collaborative relationships; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

Preferred:

J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school, or equivalent; experience in an academic law library in a university setting; successful instructional experience.
