Position: Instructional Librarian

Department: Library

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week. Evenings and weekends as needed.

Salary Grade: 15, 12-month faculty

Pay Rate: $50,000 to $54,000 – depending on experience


General Duties: The Instructional Librarian is responsible for the planning and development of information literacy instruction.

Additional responsibilities include the selection and development of information technology to support the academic needs of students, faculty and staff.

The Instructional Librarian will also promote the value and usage of the full complement of library resources through social media.

This complex position requires knowledge of multiple sources of library service information (e.g., databases, integrated library systems (ILS), print resources, etc.).

Information Literacy and Instruction

Responsible for the overall planning, development, and assessment of the information literacy program of the library.

Develops effective outreach and promotes information literacy across the curriculum.

Presents information literacy classes and other programs to educate library users.

Coordinates the information literacy/library orientation schedule with faculty.

Collects and maintains data related to library instruction including, but not limited to, the number of orientations and

student participation rates of those served through information literacy sessions.

Collects and monitors library learning outcomes that are aligned with Middle States standards and IPEDS data collection requirements.

Assesses library instruction with Minute Papers or similar instrument.

Trains library staff and others in using information resources in a variety of formats.

Provides reference, research, and APA and MLA citation assistance to library users in-person, e-mail, telephone and text msg.

Coordinates the development of library orientation materials, user guides (LibGuides), and other user aids.

Keeps abreast of current information technology through library literature and attendance at conferences, workshops, and meetings.


Maintains the library’s online integrated library system (SirsiDynix).

Works with IT and Academic Programs to maintain library presence on LMS (Blackboard).

Researches and recommends new information technology sources including databases, online, and other instructional and research resources.

Partners with colleagues internal and external to the institution to enhance library services for students.


Plans and implements methods of increasing faculty awareness and use of information resources.

Represents the library on appropriate college and faculty committees.

Serves as the library representative on the Academic Affairs Committee of the Senate.

Represent the library on other relevant college committees as needed.

Requirements: Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an ALA accredited program required.

One to three years post-M.L.S. academic experience in information resources technology and integrated library systems (ILS) applications.

Experience must show evidence of demonstrating initiative in carrying out assigned functions.

Evidence in library reference service and information literacy instruction is essential.

SirsiDynix experience preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred.

Varied work schedule sometimes requiring evening, Saturday, and Sunday work hours contingent upon the needs of the

library functions and special events within the division.

Transport and set-up library displays periodically.

Assist library services with routine shelving needs and relocation of books and resources.
