Position Title: Chief of Materials Management
Location: Administrative Offices, 6532 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville, Maryland 20742
Hours: Full Time (40 hours/week) Monday – Friday
Salary: $59,294 and a generous benefits package

Examples of Duties: Supervises the operation and activities of selection, acquisition, cataloging, processing, interlibrary loan and the Storage Facility. Establishes efficient and effective standards and procedures for selection, acquisitions, cataloging, processing, interlibrary loan and disposal of materials at the Storage Facility. Reviews, designates and implements appropriate automated processes to provide on-line centralized support services in Materials Management. Knows and ensures support of the PGCMLS materials selection policy on an ongoing basis. Negotiates with vendors. Maintains records. Collects data and prepares, submits and presents accurate reports and records by designated deadlines. Responsible for the Library’s Materials Management budget. Develops and submits an appropriate Library Materials Budget Request for the fiscal year to the Director’s Staff by the established deadline. Verifies and approves acquisition invoices and forwards to Administrative Services. Monitors and allocates the materials budget ensuring all monies are encumbered by the end of the fiscal year. Oversees the maintenance of Central Services Facility (CSF). Trains, supervises and evaluates staff in supervisory line.
Qualifications/Requirements: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program and experience in diverse phases of public library services which includes supervisory experience. Five years of professional library experience; at least three years of supervisory experience. Thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of library science, technical services, selection, management and administration of public library services and their objectives. Thorough knowledge of public library practices including collection management. Ability to effectively direct the services, administration, personnel and budgetary activities of multiple departments. Ability to supervise, including planning, scheduling, training and evaluating staff, and to train them in professional and supporting aspects of collection operations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse staff, vendors and customers. Demonstrated negotiation skills. Ability to communicate effectively both orally (including presentations) and in writing and prepare accurate records and reports. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment, work on multiple priorities simultaneously in a high stress environment and meet deadlines. Work involves extensive standing; walking; reaching, stooping, bending, grasping and moving objects; and use of computer, telephone and other office equipment.
Necessary Special Requirement: Professional Public Librarian Certification in the State of Maryland
