Research analyst–Washington, D.C.

The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) is seeking a research analyst for its Data Innovation project (http://www.datainnovationday.org/). The ideal applicant should understand recent trends in open data, “big data”, data analytics, and data visualization in different industries and government, and have demonstrated interest in the intersection of public policy, technology, and data. This is a one-year position subject to renewal based on available funding. Preference will be given to applicants based in Washington, D.C., but teleworking will be considered for highly-qualified applicants.
Essential responsibilities:
  • Write blog posts, op-eds, and other policy materials about data innovation (e.g. open data, big data, data analytics, and data visualization)
  • Recruit organizations to participate in the annual “Data Innovation Day”
  • Write a weekly newsletter on data innovation
  • Interview experts in industry and government about trends in data innovation
  • Organize conferences, panel discussions and other policy events
  • Maintain the project website and related materials
Qualifications:
  • A master’s degree in public policy, economics, political science, statistics, information science, or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree with two years of applied experience
  • Demonstrated interest in data innovation
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent research, analytical and organizational skills
  • Highly proactive and flexible, with an ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to network and build relationships with outside organizations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
  • Experience creating infographics and working with graphic design applications such as Adobe Illustrator a plus
